Merry Christmas

Congratulations For Writing To The End.

You made it! It’s almost the end of the year and you’ve written some amazing stories, brilliant dialogue, comic scenes that amuse you even though you’ve written every quip and punchline yourself and heart-wrenching twists that make you cry even though you plotted each and every sorrow.

You’ve created unforgettable characters – heroes and heroines; charmers and chancers; broken types who rise from the flames; blunderers who get everything wrong until the last chapter; dastardly pieces of work who turn your characters’ lives upside down before getting their much-deserved comeuppance.

You’ve written about outliers and confidence tricksters, dragons and monsters, lovers and cheaters, pirates and spiders and queens. You’ve written poetry, picture books and novels, monologues and essays and sitcoms.

You’ve written about yourself: putting everything out there, no stone left unturned. You’ve been brave and funny and honest about your own life. You hope it will help others.

You’ve been steadily writing throughout the year to get to this point. Battling with plot points and characters, worrying if you’ve revealed too much. You’ve rewritten and edited, chopped and changed scenes and chapters. You’ve held your breath waiting for feedback.

You’re at The End. And if you’re not yet there, you’re on your way – so much closer than you were at the start of the year.

You’ve written and committed to sharing your story. Knowing that it’s got value. That it will make a reader marvel at the world you’ve created, or the way you’ve lived your life.

Congratulations on every word you’ve written this year. Thank you for trusting me with them. It's always a privilege.

Merry Christmas.

See you in the new year!
