Get Ready To Write

Time for a writing warm-up session

Haven't written for a few days? Not sure you're really feeling in the mood? Sometimes a little warm-up exercise is all you need to get started again.


Choose three of the following:


  • describe last night's sleep (not dream) - using two similes

  • describe the personality of the first human or pet you saw today - using two metaphors

  • describe the weather - using alliteration

  • pick up an object and write two sentences about it - using personification

  • write five lines of a conversation that begins with: 'What's under your hat today?'

  • write one line of dialogue for a character who walks into a party intending to upset everyone there

  • describe the feeling of uncontrollable laughter - using one simile and one metaphor
